the 17 global goals
Elsewhere supports the efforts for a more sustainable future for all!
The Global Goals are 17 concrete goals and 169 sub-goals, which commit all 193 member states of the UN to completely eradicate poverty and hunger in the world, reduce inequalities, ensure good education and better health for all, decent jobs and more sustainable economic growth.
They also focus on promoting peace and security and strong institutions, and on strengthening international partnerships.
The new agenda thus recognizes that social, economic and environmental development, peace, security and international cooperation are closely linked and that it requires an integrated effort to achieve sustainable development results.
The global goals will complete the 2015 goals and go even further. They want to eradicate poverty and hunger in the world once and for all, and they will focus much more on sustainability. Everyone has the right to a dignified life, and today we have the necessary knowledge, technology and resources to make this possible.
The global goals will apply to all countries - both rich and poor - taking into account the countries' different starting points. The great challenges we face today, such as social, economic and political marginalization, rising youth unemployment, inequality, poverty, food insecurity, lack of, or unequal access to, basic natural resources, environmental pollution, climate change and non-responsive governments. They are all national challenges with major regional and global consequences, and therefore need to be addressed jointly.
